Assistantships

  • Teaching Assistantships (TA's)
    • TA's typically involve teaching several laboratory sections of introductory classes per semester, laboratory sections in one six-week session in the summer, or a recitation section in a class.

    • Non-native speakers of English must satisfy criteria established by the English as a Second Language (ESL) program operated by the Department of English at IUPUI before they appear in the classroom.

    • There is no need to apply separately for a teaching assistantship. The department makes the decision based on the student needs, qualification, and availability. To be considered for a teaching assistantship you must submit your graduate program application by March 15.

  • Research Assistantships (RA's)
    • RA's are provided by the faculty members from their own research funds, typically after the student 1st year.

    • See each individual faculty web sites for current RA's opportunities and eligibility.

Scholarships

Students are automatically considered by the department for these awards if elegible. No separate application is required.

  • Dean's Fellowship
    • Provides support for underrepresented minorities.

    • Duration: 3 years

    • Eligibility: US citizen or permanent resident. Underrepresented minority.

    • Deadline: March 15 .

  • Research Investment Fund (RIF) Fellowship
    • Provides supports to graduate students involved in research from a block grant from the University through the Research Investment Fund.

    • Duration: 1 year

    • Eligibility: All students accepted to the graduate program are elegible.

    • Deadline: March 15.

  • University Fellowship
    • University fellowships are open to new students not currently or previously enrolled at IUPUI or IU.

    • Duration: 1 year.

    • Eligibility: To be eligible for the University Fellowship, candidates must have a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores in the 80th percentile with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or equivalent.

    • Deadline: January 15th

  • International Student Grant (URL)
    • Provides scholarships to international undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students who have a strong academic record and who are experiencing severe financial hardship.

    • Duration: 1 year.

    • Eligibility: student must hold F-1 or J-1 student visa status, be assessed tuition at the out-of-state rate, and have completed at least two semesters of full-time coursework at IUPUI at the time the award begins.

    • Deadline: April 1 (Fall semesters) 1 (Spring semesters).

  • Robert Noyce Scholarships (URL)
    • Provides funding for a 12 month graduate program to become certified math and science teachers.

Other Minor Awards

    Provides a funding opportunity for promising students whose academic preparation has been affected by their economic or academic background.

  • Travel Fellowships

    Provides funds to assist full-time graduate students enrolled in research degree programs (master's or Ph.D.) with their travel expenses to a conference.
